THE LAY PASTOR SOCIETY OF OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CHURCH PROMOTES THE INCLUSIVENESS OF OUR PARISH COMMUNITY

  1. Goal- To encourage a feeling of being reached out to as a parish community and contacting every parish family once a month

Objective-

Each “Parish Friend” will call or write their list of parishioners on a monthly basis to say hello, pass on the pastor’s update, and to determine if there are needs or concerns.

  1. Goal- To recruit enough parishioners to accomplish goal #1.

Objective-

    1. Speaking to Parish Groups
    2. Information located in vestibule of church
    3. Encourage others to participate
    4. Recruiting during masses on Sunday by priests or by Lay pastors.

    3. Encourage others to take up this ministry
    4. Bring up concerns and needs
    5. Update the parish list

 St. John of the Cross, Lemon Grove, CA

  1. Scriptural quote that connects Lay Pastor Ministry with the ministry of Jesus: Matthew 25.40 “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers you do for me”.
  2. Description of the Lay Pastor Society at St John’s: We are building the body of Christ through love, fellowship and faith sharing with our parish family.
  3. Lay Pastor Society hopes to accomplish: We would like to reach out to those in need; to the infirmed, lonely, isolated, to those whoare spiritually hungry, those who are separated from the church, to listen to their concerns, to show and share the love of Christ to welcome them to the Christian community.

  2. Improve attendance and contents at monthly meetings/6-12months

Objectives

Recruit more Lay Pastors:

  1. Each Lay Pastor, when possible, personally invite and bring one person to the monthly meetings to introduce them to our ministry.
  2. Invite Mark Price to visit our parish to introduce our ministry and give a brief overview of our program and invite newcomers.
  3. After Mark Price’s  presentation, have Lay Pastor table in the gathering area with handouts and have people to answer questions regarding the Lay Pastor ministry.
  4. Blurb in bulletin: “Would you like to join a ministry that you could set your own time and days to serve? Something you could do at your own convenience? Only other requirement is one hour per month at monthly meeting. For more information contact: Frank Villar or Pat Volk/Lay Pastor Society.”
  5. Visit other ministries at St John to promote the Lay Pastor Ministry.

Improve Attendance & Content at monthly meetings:

  1. Letter to all participants to explain the importance of the meeting; Spiritual nourishment, group support/team building, express our joys as well as our concerns and challenges, refocus and reenergize us for another month.
  2. Make each person a part of the meeting. A partnership of sorts. Assignment for opening prayer, closing prayer, written publications to share.
  3. Present different speakers

LPS Mission

To reach out to each parishioner-family in the St. Didacus community, offering prayerful help and a listening ear thus promoting Christ-like inclusiveness of all as sacred members of the Body of Christ.

Description

The Lay Pastor Society is a telephone ministry.  Our main purpose is to keep in touch with our St. Didacus Parish Family.  The Lay Pastors do this through sharing in our parishioners prayer needs in happy times as well as in difficult circumstances.

LPS Mission

Our mission is to serve and act as helping hands of Christ's love for His flock by reaching out to St. Gabriel's parish members via telephone, face to face, or other communications so that we may help to assist, serve and unite families of our parish, and thus provide a personal affirmation of Christ's love.

Goals

  1. To reach out to all on a monthly basis including those in need: the infirmed, lonely, isolated from the church, and spiritually hungry.  To listen to and pray for their concerns, be a friend, to show and share the love of Christ.
  2. To recruit enough Lay Pastor Ministers to reach all families of St. Gabriel's parish.
  3. To attend monthly meetings and offer support, understanding, compassion, encouragement, and love to fellow Lay Pastors.
  4. To inform the parish community of the mission, goals and workings of the Lay Pastor Society.  This will be accomplished by: speaking to parish groups, recruiting during masses by priests or Lay Pastors, and encouraging others to participate in this ministry.
  5. To act as the smiling voices of the church.
